Most seconds will be candles that have frosting on the surface. Frosting is a natural and common occurrence in vegetable waxes, such as soy wax. As the wax cools it crystallises as it tries to return to its natural state. Usually, it’s caused by the wax cooling too quickly, due to room being too cold, or the temperature the wax is poured at being too low. This does not affect the quality of the candle, it will still have the same slow, even burn and strong scent throw as our full price candles.
Other imperfections may chipped paint or other imperfections on the candle jar itself, the imperfections will be made clear on the listing. Other than that, they’ll still be lovingly hand poured, and made from sustainable soy wax, and aromatherapy grade essential oils. Seconds will be sold at a large discount from the full price.
By selling seconds I’m hoping to reduce waste and improve our sustainability, these imperfections are purely aesthetic, and don’t affect the quality of the candle burn, so I want them to be used rather than discarded – and there’s only so many candle I can burn myself! At the same time, I pride myself on the quality of our product, and if you are paying full price, I want you to receive a perfect product. Secondly, I know that money is tight for a lot of people this year, so by offering a discount, I can hopefully make these candles available to more people.
